I wasn't the most talented player on the basketball court. I wasn't the fastest. I wasn't the strongest. What I did have was a willingness to work. As a young athlete, I learned something that would eventually become the foundation of TEAM: Character can take you where talent alone cannot. I didn't know it then, but the experiences that would shape my life—and eventually shape TEAM—were just beginning.

What began on the basketball court followed me into schools, afterschool programs, coaching, mentoring, and youth development. Over the years, I saw the same truth again and again: young people grow when caring adults intentionally teach, encourage, assist, and model the skills and character they need. TEAM grew from those experiences—not as a program created in theory, but as a system shaped through years of working directly with young people.
Through years of working with young people, I learned that the moments adults sometimes overlook are often the moments young people remember. A greeting at the door. A word of encouragement. A calm correction. Taking time to teach instead of simply punish. TEAM was built on a simple belief: every interaction is an opportunity to influence, develop, and help a young person grow.
For years, many of these ideas lived in the way I coached, taught, and worked with young people. Over time, I began naming the practices, organizing the lessons, and building frameworks that other adults could use. Teach. Encourage. Assist. Model. TEAM became more than an acronym. It became a youth development system designed to help adults become more intentional about the influence they have every day.
TEAM Youth Development System was built from years of lessons, relationships, mistakes, growth, and moments with young people and the adults who serve them. Today, the mission is bigger than one coach, one classroom, or one program. TEAM exists to equip adults with practical tools to develop character, strengthen leadership, build relationships, and make every interaction matter. The work is still growing—and I believe we're just getting started.
